Store owner, retired deputy killed in Orange County shooting

Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in what appears to be a robbery turned shooting at a thrift store in northern Orange County, a source close to the investigation told WRAL News.

One of the victims is retired Orange County deputy Skip Wade, said the source, who asked to remain anonymous. A family member said the other victim was Phillip Earl Johnson, who owned the Week in Treasures thrift store, near the intersection of Carr Store and Mill Creek roads in Cedar Grove.

One died at the scene and the other died at Duke University Hospital in Durham, the source said. Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
